How do I book a charter?

Fill out the information on our contact form and submit to receive a call back from a Tropical Charters representative or call us directly at 340-473-6918. Once you are speaking with a representative they will handle all of the reservations for you.

How many people can we bring?

Tropical Charters has a variety of boats that can accommodate 1 person up to groups of 36 people. Water Taxi is available for groups of up to 150 people.

What are the age requirements?

Newborn and up! We will find the right charter for you based on the ages of people in your party.

Should we plan a USVI or BVI day charter?

Both the USVI and BVI have unique places to visit. We highly recommend visiting the BVI, however traveling to the British Virgin Islands requires that everyone in your party, including children, have valid passports.

Is it possible to visit the Baths of Virgin Gorda and a few other stops?

The commute to Virgin Gorda is between 1.5-2 hours each way by boat (plus checking in at customs & immigration). Normally one other stop is permitted but this is dependent on sea conditions, weather & remaining time. If you decide to visit Virgin Gorda you should expect this might be your only stop.

What are the additional costs?

If you are traveling to the BVI there is a standard $45 international processing fee (customs) per person. Fuel usage can vary depending on your destinations and needs to be paid to the captain the day of your trip. The industry standard for Captain’s tip is 20-25% of the cost of the boat. You should also bring money for lunch, drinks, souvenirs, etc.

Are your boats child friendly?

Yes. If you have children in your party we will make sure to choose the right charter that will be safe and practical for children.

Do the boats have shade?

Most of the boats we charter have shade, and some more than others. If this is a priority we will get you on a boat with plenty of shade.

Do the boats have bathrooms?

We do have boats with bathrooms aboard. If this is a priority please make sure to communicate this to your Tropical Charters representative to ensure this need is met.

Do I need to bring snorkel gear?

Most of the charter boats supply snorkel gear but some require that you bring your own gear. Your Tropical Charters representative will specify whether or not the gear is included and places to rent the gear if need be.

Is lunch provided?

Lunch is provided only on luxury excursions. You can bring your own lunch or stop at one of the many restaurants throughout the islands.

Are beers or soda provided?

Ice and bottled water are provided by all charters. Some offer sodas and beer. Your Tropical Charters representative will specify what your trip includes as far as beverages. Luxury excursions and sailing charters are open bar and specialty items will be an extra charge.

How much are BVI Customs?

$65 (cash) per person plus a $70 (credit card only) USVI boat re-entry fee. Additional fees of $20 per boat apply on Sundays and during BVI holidays.

What should we TIP the captain?

Industry standard is 20-25% of the price of the boat. If you have a 5 star day please tip your captain well!

What forms of payment do you accept?

Tropical Charters will charge your deposit for the trip via credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Amex), Paypal & Venmo. You may pay the remaining balance to the captain on the day of your trip via credit card (Visa & Mastercard) or in cash. Captain’s tip must be paid in cash. Customs must be paid in cash. Fuel can be paid by credit card or in cash.

How long are the trips? What if we want to stay our longer or come back earlier?

 Trips are typically 7.5-8 hours depending on operator. Many boats have the option for a half-day charter, which is 4 hours. At any point during your trip you can ask your captain to bring you back to the dock. You can extend your trip for an additional charge in USVI waters only. Please talk to your representative about trip extensions.

What should I bring on the boat?

Non-aerosol sunscreen, towels, any food or beverages that are not provided, passport if traveling to the BVI, credit card and cash, camera, picture ID, snorkel gear (if none provided).

What if there is bad weather the day of our trip?

Trips will go out rain or shine. Your captain will make the call as to whether or not the weather and sea conditions are safe. If the captain decides that the trip cannot go out Tropical Charters will do their best to reschedule your trip or provide you any available refunds.

Where does the boat leave from?

Different boats leave from different marinas. Please let your Tropical Charters representative know where you are staying as we may be able to arrange a pick up at your resort. Your representative will give you detailed instructions for finding the boat and make sure you know exactly where you are going.

What safety measures are in place on the boats?

All of our captains are USCG Masters and are STCW certified (open water rescue, first aid & CPR, firefighting, and water survival). All boats have enough life preservers for adults & children aboard. The boats are also equipped with fire extinguishers, life rings, Marine VHF radio and other safety equipment. Your captain will go over safety instructions once your entire group is aboard the boat.

What if I need to cancel? Or reschedule?

Tropical Charters has a 48-hour cancelation policy. If you have to cancel or reschedule within 48 hours of your scheduled charter you will not be provided a refund for your deposit and may have the remaining balance charged to your credit card on file. Please contact Tropical Charters and speak with a representative as soon as you know that you need to cancel or reschedule and we will do our best to accommodate.
